Tsvangirai wedding case: High Court reserves judgment

The case in which Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai’s former lover, Locardia Karimatsenga is seeking to bar him from wedding his fiancé was heard on Tuesday before High Court Judge, Justice Antonia Guvava, who reserved her judgment for Wednesday.

Lawyers from both sides appeared at the High Court at 1430HRS where they presented their cases.

Emerging from the court after five hours, one of the lawyers representing Karimatsenga, Dumisani Mtombeni of Venturas and Samkange

said: “We wanted to produce a DVD showing the lobola proceedings which we have with us to substantiate our case and whose facts are being denied by our learned colleagues (defence lawyers). The judge however reserved her judgment on that case for the sake of progress.”

Tsvangirai’s lawyer, Innocent Chagonda said: “At the moment, what I can say is that the judgment has been reserved until tomorrow at 1500hrs and we are all waiting for it.”

Karimatsenga on Friday filed an urgent High Court application challenging Tsvangirai’s planned wedding next Saturday with his new love, Elizabeth Macheka .

Macheka is daughter to Zanu PF’s former Chitungwiza Mayor, Joseph Macheka .

Tsvangirai had already invited regional heads of states for the wedding which now seems in limbo.

Tsvangirai abandoned Karimatsenga last November barely two weeks after paying lobola for the 39-year-old Harare businesswoman during a traditional ceremony.
