Zifa to give Warriors wings

The Zimbabwe Football Association is desperately looking for funds that will enable it to charter a plane for the senior men’s national team’s decisive Afcon encounter away to Angola next month.

The Warriors visit the Palancas Negras for the battle finale on October 14, with qualification for South Africa 2013 well within reach, following a comfortable 3-1 win at home two weeks ago. They just need to avoid losing by two clear goals. The Warriors have not been to the Nations Cup since 2006.

ZIFA are planning to fly Rahman Gumbo’s men and their supporters to Luanda in a bid to boost the team’s confidence.

“We have so far managed to secure part of the sponsorship, but will still need more to make the charter arrangements a reality,” said Zifa Chief Executive Officer, Jonathan Mashingaidze.

The Warriors nearly failed to travel to Mozambique for a recent World Cup qualifier, after a travel agent withdrew the players’ tickets due to delay in payment by the association. National teams have often struggled to travel to international assignments, in what has been linked with the association’s administrative blunders.
