Hosts South Africa and Kenya came first and second respectively, but Zimbabwe will still be in buoyant mood going to the World Cup qualifying matches set for Egypt next month.
Zimbabwe is now ranked fourth. The Walter Ndlovu and coach Nkosilathi Dube-led side will now be one of three regional teams to face North and West African champions in Egypt for the Turkey 2013 World Cup qualifying tournament.
“It was an experience that sharpened our training skills because we were competing with teams that have state-of-the-art equipment (wheelchairs). The mere thought of making Zimbabwe proud also helped us qualify to the next round,” said team manager Ndlovu.
“The team has 14 people from different regions and backgrounds, but we are one because we are driven by the love to represent our country. Teams must not be selected on nepotism, tribalism and racism, but on merit.”
Before the September competition, which ended last week, Zimbabwe had also participated in the June Vodacom Conference Games, also in South Africa, while still preparing for the just-ended preliminary round games.
