Rescuers were amazed to pull an unscathed four-year-old tot from the remains of a car after it was rammed by a 250 pounds stag and then crushed by a train.
Horrified mum Anita Koller tried to tear her son free from his child seat but was thrown clear when the train hit them at full speed at the crossing in Oberengadin, Switzerland.
“They were hit by a deer which knocked them over into the car’s roof and it slid straight onto the tracks just as a train was coming. It didn’t seem that either of them had a prayer,” said one witness.
But rescuers were amazed when both mum Anita and tot Markus were left unhurt by the smash.
“The train hit the car so hard it was derailed. They really were extraordinarily lucky,” said a fire service spokesman.
Sheep born with upside down head
A video of a sheep apparently born with an upside down head has been posted on YouTube.
The sheep, called Terry, is believed to be living a relatively normal life on a farm, somewhere in Britain.
He was filmed by a friend of the farmer, who calls himself Mr Macca, who may well have a viral hit on his hands.
“He lives happily and has been checked by a vet to ensure he is in no pain,” said Mr Macca.
“He can eat, sleep and do everything other sheep can.”
Joint ‘fell out of lawyer’s pocket’ in court
A New Orleans city prosecutor has resigned after a marijuana joint reportedly fell out of his pocket in court – while he was talking to a police officer.
Assistant city attorney Jason Cantrell was chatting with an officer in Orleans Parish Magistrate’s Court when it happened, according to the local Times-Picayune.
The newspaper quoted sources as saying “a pair of cops glanced at the joint on the ground, then at each other before making arguably the easiest collar in the annals of policework”.
Cantrell, 43, who immediately resigned from his post, was reportedly cautioned and released under a city policy for minor marijuana offences.
His wife LaToya Cantrell, who is currently running for New Orleans City Council, said: “I absolutely do not condone his actions.
“I love my husband unconditionally and am very concerned for his health and well-being, and for that of our family. I hope that this incident will encourage Jason to seek the professional help.”
Police make mugs of themselves
Police in Poland have been slammed for releasing a photofit of the prime suspect in a bank robbery – complete with his ski mask disguise.
The image – released after a £10,000 bureau de change hold up in Gronowo – shows only the suspect’s brown eyes.
Then to add insult to injury, detectives accidentally released the name of their sole witness, who had only agreed to speak to them if he could remain anonymous.
“We haven’t excelled ourselves this time,” admitted police spokesman, Tomasz Stawarski.
“The robber kept his mask on all the time so our artist didn’t have anything to go on apart from the colour of his eyes,” he added.
Detectives have ordered local media not to publish the witness’s name and to remove his identity from any computer databases.
“It was a mistake to name him. He is now under police protection,” said the spokesman.
