Businesses urged to compete

Local businesses have been urged to boost their competitive advantage rather than rely on indirect investment as a formula for industrialization.

A local business analyst, Bruce McNeil, told a business leadership forum held in the city that although direct investment was a major contributor to industrial growth for many developing counties, other factors such as the capability of local technologies and industriousness of workers could facilitate growth and development.

McNeil also urged businesses to focus on a new industrial strategies based on local capabilities. “This concept of human resource development can be achieved through providing formal education, on the job training and learning,” he said. McNeil said a clear strategy was to create synergies by incorporating business partners and companies from other provinces. He said Mutare should always advocate for common values by creating an enabling environment for business.
