Directed by Nama award–winning actress Eunice Tava, the play features a celebrated cast that includes Charles Matare, Priscilla Mutendera, Getrude Munhamo, Teddy Mangawa and Tinashe Chirisa.

“The timely play zooms in on a family in the Manicaland Province who after discovering diamonds within their homestead have to contend with opportunists who want a share in the riches. Chifunyise brings to the fore issues of ownership and exploitation of mineral resources, cultural practices and development,” said Rooftop Promotions publicist Lesley Moyo..

The play reflects on how families in the diamond rich province are not benefiting from the proceeds.

“While a lot of diamond extraction has been taking place in the province, locals have not been benefiting from the proceeds of the sale of the precious minerals. Companies mining in the province have been accused of not doing any value addition to the province or its people.

“The expropriation of diamonds has also affected families who have had to be moved to newer and unproductive places. This has affected their cultural practices,” said Moyo. M Rooftop promotions founding producer, Daves Guzha, said the aim of the play was to create dialogue and debate in terms of correlation between people, mineral resources, development and cultural practices. – Kundai Marunya
