The well-wishers donated a set of two blood pressure machines and stethoscopes after they were touched by the plight of locals who, after the hospital’s equipment broke down, had to travel more than 70 km to the nearest hospital in Rusape to get their blood pressure checked.
The situation was particularly bad for pregnant women and people suffering from chronic medical conditions like hypertension and diabetes mellitus.
“Labour management had become a nightmare as BP is one of the things the nurses monitor in labour. One hypertensive patient shared the situation they were facing and it was aired on a social platform for people from Chendambuya across the globe,” said Regis Matimati, one of the people who helped raise funds for the equipment.
Matimati, who together with other concerned well-wishers in the Diaspora, Bonaventure Matimati and Barbara Nyagomo, oversaw the handover of equipment to Weya Rural Hospital.
Matimati pledged to continue to assist the impoverished communities back home.
