Don’t politicise food: Chief

A Zanu (PF)-aligned traditional leader in Muzarabani, Chief Kasekete, seems to have broken ranks with others in his party by calling for an end to the politicisation of food aid.

Kasekete, who is infamous for terrorising MDC supporters in Mashonaland Central, is reported to be summoning anyone who sidelines MDC supporters in the distribution of the Grain Marketing Board cereals.

Freddie Matonhodze, an MDC member in Muzarabani, said Kasekete had written letters to almost every village head and Zanu (PF) leaders in Muzarabani, instructing them to give food to everyone, regardless of political affiliation.

“He instructed villagers to report anyone who politicizes food aid. If a report is made against someone, that person will be summoned to his village court,” said Matonhodze.

He added that some village heads and Zanu (PF) members who appeared before his court included village head George Bumhira and a prominent Zanu (PF) member, Charles Mapungu.

Another source in Muzarabani said Chief Kasekete was bitter that Zanu (PF) members in the area had tarnished his image.

“Kasekete is complaining that Zanu (PF) members, including Charles Mapungu, are destroying Zanu (PF)’s support and image by politicizing government food aid,” the source said.
