I have gained much respect for Cuthbert Dube, with what he has done. It was high time someone stood against corruption in football and punished those involved. A life ban to the players, officials and journalists who were announced last week is very much a great step towards developing our soccer. I do not feel pity for anyone on the list because what they did was wrong and they should face the music. – Derick Maunganidze, Borrowdale.
Robson Sharuko is a big name in sports journalism, respected by the readers and soccer fans as a whole, but what he did was dirty and a life ban to a big name like him should be a big lesson to upcoming journalists. Cuthbert Dube and the rest of the Independent Ethics Committee should not feel bad for passing their judgement. – Sean T, Tynwald.
“Asiagaters” deserved to be punished. Selling out our nation like that was unpatriotic, to say the least. But I don’t believe a life-ban was really appropriate for players.
Looking closely at the issue, these players were victims in the whole situation. They were not being paid well by ZIFA and any starving Zimbabwean offered peanuts would have accepted. Journalists who were involved will see their careers continuing despite the ban, but not the players. – Tonderai G, Mbare.
Thank you ZIFA for punishing those who took part in the Asiagate scandal. Now, let’s start scouting for talent and work towards building a new national team than go with one we can no longer trust. – Raymond Shamirai, Masvingo.
Let’s all rally behind ZIFA and say no to corruption. Match fixing should never be tolerated. It is a betrayal to the football fans and sponsors. – Lungisani Dube, Bulawayo.
