Human Rights poets refuse to be silenced

Barely two weeks after being silenced by youths allegedly aligned to Zanu (PF), Zimbabwe Poets for Human Rights will return to Kadoma for a forum that will see the group distributing free CDs of their album entitled All Protocols Observed.

The group, led by seasoned poets Michael Mabwe and Robison Shoes Lambada, was shutdown by Zanu (PF) youth for spreading regime change material.

“We were in Kadoma two weeks ago where we were performing live and distributing CDs. We were unfortunately shutdown by party youths with the aid of police, saying we were holding a political gathering where political language was being used through poetry,” said Lambada.

He said they were not arrested because they quickly left the place. The group has now registered its event with the police.

“The first time we were wrong because we did not pre-register with the police as required by law but this time around we wrote a notification and since the event is not in Rimuka but Eiffel Flats we wrote it to a different police station.

“This time we doing it indoors, the last one was an outdoor event, we don’t rule out that it might be closed but we are continuing with the event,” he said.

“We will also be educating young people on the importance of registering as voters, where they go to register and how the process goes. We will distributed our CDs for free and there will be guest performances by a local group called Berina Community Arts,” said Lambada

The group has made an impact both locally and internationally with their album which was recently launched in Germany.
