Just one hour a month

The rains are coming soon, we hope, and this means all the waste that is lying around will soon be clogging up the drains. Are we going to have another cholera outbreak? Is our ground water slowly disappearing with all the water that is being sold to property owners who do not receive any Municipal water? Some property owners have not had Municipal water supplies for the last three years.

September was clean up month and although fantastic efforts have been made throughout the country with hundreds of Clean Ups taking place, it still seems that so much more needs to be done. Environment Africa is calling on the Government of Zimbabwe to commit themselves to cleaning up the country by asking all citizens to set aside one hour on every last Friday of the month to get out there and keep our country clean. Just one hour a month.

Recycling? The Recycling Association of Zimbabwe has been formed in an effort to bring together recycling stakeholders, share information, ideas and assist with the establishment of recycling centres and recycling entrepreneurs. TM Supermarkets, SPAR, and OK Zimbabwe are contributing to the Recycling Green Fund. For more info email: info@environmentafrica.org.

The question is how many people are recycling? Especially those living in low density properties where composting should be compulsory. In fact no compostable waste should be picked up by the Municipality in low density areas.
