Local film wins award

Zimbabwean film producer Tenford Chitanana scored a first after his film Toendepi - Reflections From a Discarded Generation scooped the best documentary short film award at the Silicon Valley African Film Festival awards held in California last week.

The film was up against Stories from Tahrir from Egypt, Diamonds and Democracy from Botswana, Life on the Age from Lesotho and The Ugandan among others.

Toendepi focuses on the daily struggles of young Zimbabweans caught up in a brutal socio-economic environment.

“I feel honored to be accorded such an award, it shows that our Zimbabwean films are of good quality and we are not lagging behind. Being nominated was an honor in itself and winning is a bonus,” he said.

Other awards up for grabs included the Best Narrative Feature, Best Documentary, Best short film, Emerging film maker and Best Animation.
