Midwest Rhinos stoke cricket flames

Local cricket franchise, Midwest Rhinos, have stoked grassroots enthusiasm for the gentleman’s game here. With Ken Connelly as board chairman, the Rhinos have immense commitment to promoting cricket among able but deprived youngsters in this small mining town.

Five training nets have been established at Mbizo Cricket Ground, founded and funded by the John Gardener Foundation of Australia. Rhinos manager, Admire Marodza, said the young boys and girls had responded overwhelmingly to the talent identification initiative.

“We have deployed two cricket coaches at the Mbizo grounds and they are helping us nurture the youngsters, who have responded positively,” said Marodza, adding that resident cricket coaches had been established at various schools in the city, including Kwekwe Primary, Kwekwe High School and Fitchlea Primary.
