A vendor from Westwood, who identified herself as Amai Matengarufu, said the monkeys descended from the Heroes Acre Hills early in the morning in search of food.
“They eat our apples, bananas, oranges and eggs that we sell here,” she said. “We have to be on high alert because any lapse of attention results in losses to the vendors. They grab our items and dash back into the hills.”
Another resident said a lack of edible fruit in the hills was forcing the wild animals to come and steal their food.
“There is lack of water and fruit trees in the hills, so their only option is to come down to the houses,” she said.
