Music awards bring joy to artists

The Matabeleland Music awards 2012 will be launched soon in Joburg to recognise and appreciate musicians from Matabeleland based in South Africa.

Awards director Bawilili Dube plans to create a platform for the upcoming artists and stage a world class event that portrays a positive image of the province’s artistic capabilities.

“Matabeleland artists have been largely ignored since independence We had great artists like the late great Ndux Malax, Solomon Skuza, Christopher Shoko – but there is nothing to remember them by. But l say their legacy must live on,” said Ndux Malax’s son Civilisation Ncube. “Music is in our blood, most of my families are singers so we make sure that this gift from above will be passed on to future generations,” he said.

“As musicians from Matabeleland we must do away with selfishness and greediness and learn from successful musicians from other provinces and other countries. We must unite and do bigger live shows collectively and learn to thank and give back to the community,” he added.

Civilisation is very proud of the awards project being pioneered by Dube. “Definitely this development will make our music competitive and a lot of musicians will start working hard. We hope to see investors coming in to boost the industry,” he said.
