“We should have a strong and vibrant productive sector in the country that should work as a base for enhanced economic growth,” said the minister in his Restructuring Procedures Manual. Moyo said government acknowledged the role played by State Enterprises and Parastatals in turning around the economy.
“Government has prioritised SEP reforms with the objective of enhancing their efficiency, effectiveness and relevance,” he said.
The government has already approved a restructuring framework for the SEPs which incorporates privatisation, commercialisation and other restructuring strategies in parastatals like Air Zimbabwe, the National Railways of Zimbabwe and the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority.
Moyo’s ministry is working with the State Enterprises Restructuring Agency, whose role, according to its Executive Director, Edgar Nyoni, is to spearhead the country’s socio-economic development.
“The technical advice that we give to parastatals should benefit citizens too. The vital role is a culmination of the government strategic vision and focus that accords us a macro-responsibility in the direction of economic activities.
“The restructuring process is an on-going economic transformation programme undertaken through the Medium Term Plan for 2011-2015,” said Nyoni.
