The party’s top leadership, including members of the standing committee and several cabinet ministers, have been pushing to stand uncontested in the primaries to be held soon.

MDC- T National Organising Secretary Nelson Chamisa said that unlike their Zanu (PF) partners who encourage leaders to cling to power, the party would not allow politicians to impose themselves on the electorate.

“All positions are to be contested because as a party we have that said if the people want you to lead them, they will elect you,” said Chamisa.

He said primary elections were going to be held in every constituency.

“All positions are going to be contested and we are under instruction to obey the decision of the party standing committee,” he said.

Chamisa warned ousted councillors from the MDC- T to stop imposing themselves in the local authorities because”they had dissatisfied the party”.

“There is confusion as some of them want to continue working under the party’s ticket. We have taken a stance that they should stop representing the party because they have failed us,” he said.

Ousted councillor for Ward 7 in Chitungwiza, Tinashe Kazuru, said he respected the party’s decision but said the dismissal of the councillors was not fair.

“Proper procedures were not followed because there were no investigations done to establish whether all of us were corrupt,” said Kazuru.

He said the councillors had written several letters of appeal to the party’s decision making body to which there has been no response.
