PM, Locardia seek out of court settlement

Lawyers representing Locardia Karimatsenga, MDC leader Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai’s former lover, have agreed to resolve their maintenance claim in private.

Karimatsenga is demanding a monthly $15,000 as maintenance. But the Premier denies that he was married to her. Magistrate Reuben Mukhavhi presided over the high profile maintenance case on Monday and postponed judgement to today (Thursday) pending negotiations between the two parties.

The PM’s advocate Thabani Mpofu’s submission to the court reads: “We believe owe it to the profession, to the court and to the generality of Zimbabweans that we settle this matter. We have been able to find each other and we believe there is a way to settle this issue that will not involve the court.”

Karimatsenga’s lawyer Everson Samukange agreed saying, “We do not expect to fail.”

Karimatsenga last month successfully sought a court interdict blocking Tsvangirai’s bid to enter a monogamous marriage with new love Elizabeth Macheka, whom he then married under customary law.
