Born Mbekezeli Mpofu, the dreadlocked artist bemoaned the lack of effective marketing strategies for music in Zimbabwe, a trend that he said kept Kwaito suppressed.
“I chose to market my music outside the country because most of my songs have not been handled to my satisfaction in Zimbabwe,” said the Zimbabwe Music Awards winner.
Most of his songs are already receiving significant airplay on Soweto TV, a station based in South Africa, and he has held talks with prominent SA musicians Kwaito Camp’s Bricks and Kabelo about future collaboration.
The Bulawayo-based artist said he was putting the finishing touches to his new album, Feel Good. He is well known for tracks such Hamba nobani, Till the day I die and Kas’ lami, which stole the hearts of many Zimbabweans both in South Africa and back home.
At the age of 19, Pozee scooped the award for the most promising artist, beating Ngoni Kambarami and Nasty Tricks.
