Ruvengo lashes out at bogus artists

Amabhoza Theatre Crew Director Attanas Ruvengo recently castigated opportunists and fake artists in the industry for siphoning funds meant for community development.

“We have been witnessing an increase in the number of bogus artists and actors across Zimbabwe and South Africa. Transparency is needed because I am convinced some individuals are benefiting at the expense of genuine groups. Action is needed to curb these unscrupulous elements who are chasing away donors willing to uplift communities through arts and entertainment,” he said.

Senior group member, Mildred Mbavare called for support in preserving culture and the status of arts and entertainment history. “If communities continue turning a blind eye this industry will soon be defunct.

There are a lot challenges as bogus entertainers exploit a loophole at the expense of talented and genuine groups. Working as a united force we will triumph and unscrupulous elements within the industry will be exposed,” said Mbavare.

The theatre group has 10 male and female dancers from South Africa and Zimbabwe. It is involved in community development programmes where it works with orphans, vulnerable children and people living with HIV and AIDS. Last year they represented Zimbabwe in SA’s National School of the Arts Festival of Fame and the Alliance Francaise festival.
