They say they are checking your asylum at Home Affairs but they are lying. If something gets lost/stolen you don’t report to the police because they will ask for ID/passport and if you don’t have they will arrest you. If you don’t have ID they need you to pay bribe or call your relatives to come and pay for you.
Last month a person was found dead in Pretoria so South Africans accused Zimbabweans of the murder. At the scene police started arresting people who didn’t have IDs instead of looking for the murderer. A week later the story came out that he was killed by a South African.
