Too clean for politics

EDITOR - Simba Makoni and Welshman Ncube are too clean for politics and only Morgan Tsvangirai fits the criteria of a leader who is as wise as a serpent and as harmless as a dove. His likability shows that he has the ex-factor and the charm necessary to appeal to the electorate.

Given past experience, Simba (MKD) and Welshman (MDC-W)’s chances of beating Robert Mugabe (Zanu (PF)) to the top job are close to zero. Simba is a known graduate who does not understand arithmetic, an essential element for State House. Even now he does not believe that the people who voted for him in the 2008 Presidential elections needed change and his involvement split the vote which gave Mugabe a political lifeline.

By all appearances, Welshman had to look for Arthur Guseni Oliver Mutambara who was outside the circles of his party to lead them in the 2008 Presidential election, thereby showing that he is not fit to be a commander in chief. Don’t forget that it is only Morgan who has had the audacity to tell Mugabe that his time at State House is long overdue. The big question is – does his personal character make him a failure on bread and butter issues?

Simba Makoni and Welshman Ncube have rarely had a scandal in their lives, proving that they are too holy and clean for the common man. Better said, they are too out of touch with reality. Great Kings and leaders have common controversial behavioural traits that give them competence. In the bible, King David went through a situation more or less similar to what Morgan is coming to terms with. I am referring to the affair that happened between King David and Bathsheba. Most divinity scholars question who seduced whom? So it is the same with political science scholars on Morgan’s affairs.

There is something common here with Morgan and David which Simba and Welshman do not have. When King David sends his messengers to bring Bathsheba to him, the bible did not mention any use of coercion neither does it report any resistance from the women. These women foresee Kingship or Presidency on the forehead of Morgan which Simba and Welshman do not have. This brings us to the understanding that the Kingship qualities similar to those of King David that attracted Bathsheba also attracts other women today to Morgan which make him a victim too. If you like King David you must like Morgan as well and be willing to vote him into power in the forthcoming presidential elections.

Tsvangirai rose from working in Trojan Mine (Bindura) to Trade Union leader and when he saw a window of opportunity to create a party, he seized it. As educated as he may be, Welshmen was part of the MDC founding members, but it was only the brave one who had to pump out his chest and step up to the helm of party presidency to face Zanu (PF)’s brutality.

Makoni is known on big stages in the United Kingdom and less in the rural villages of Zimbabwe. Apart from denouncing Mugabe, he has no details about big Zimbabwean issues such as land. Morgan from the beginning favoured a well organised land reform approach which gives black Zimbabweans title deeds. Unlike Zanu (PF) who are changing the whole country into state reserved land. Morgan is a visionary man who trusts Zimbabweans with their land.

It is clear that Simba and Welshman are far from being quality leaders; they leave a lot to be desired. – KIZITO CHAKA, by e-mail
