Entitled ‘Voice of the voiceless’ the album contains songs like Sunungurai Maoko, Chinja Maitiro and MDC, all of which highlight the tribulations suffered by Zimbabweans as a result of President Robert Mugabe’s rule.
“Our main bone of contention is the suppression of freedom of expression, coupled with the need to rise above political bickering between warring ideologies for the greater good of the nation as a whole,” said Vusumuzi Ncube, who co-produced the album with Sithandazile Mathe of V.I Squared.
“Our songs celebrate 13 years of MDC’s existence; this is a birthday present to the entire country and the party of excellence. We must not forget what Mugabe and his party did by annihilating a prosperous state through looting and enriching friends and family members at the expense of suffering citizens,” said Mzokozoko.
Hailing from Bulawayo, Mzokozoko is famous for his song Mqabuko Nkomo, My Hero. He has criticised Zanu (PF) and “its mouthpiece ZBC” for continued use of this song without his consent.
“I celebrated Nkomo’s life through music. But Zanu (PF) hijacked my song and they continue abusing it without consulting me. Up to today, I have not received any penny or credit due to me,” said a seething Mzokozoko.
