Addressing students and academics during a public lecture at the United Methodist’s Africa University, His Excellency Lew Kwang-chul said this could only be achieved by including women in decision-making.
“In our country we believe women are the backbone of the economy and therefore we have made a point of economically empowering them by giving them equal opportunities with men. Gone are the days when women were treated as second class citizens,” said Kwang-Chul.
He said 90 percent of South Korea’s foreign missions were run by women and the country expected to have a female president soon.
“Women are more intelligent than men and in our country they have penetrated the fields once reserved for men”.
“We have a strong belief that if you empower a woman you have also empowered the nation,” he said. The Ambassador said Zimbabwean women were hard working and had the capacity to bring about meaningful development if they were given the necessary resources.
