Young Warriors disappoint

The Zimbabwe Under 17 soccer team were a big disappointment Saturday after crashing to a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of visiting Congo Brazzaville at Rufaro Stadium.

The Young Warriors were never in the game as the more fluid Congolese dominated the match and twice took the lead and eventually the game and now have a one goal advantage ahead of the return leg in Brazzaville in two weeks time.

The Young Warriors now have a mountain to climb as they will have to score two goals without reply in an unfamiliar stadium and before a hostile crowd.

In fact, the goal that Tinotenda Kadewere grabbed to level the scores at one all at half time was after a struggle while the Congolese got their two goals at ease.

Looking at the manner in which the Congolese played and that they lead 2-1 it will not be easy for the Young Warriors.

At Rufaro the Young Warriors did not play as a team as they were more intent on fancy skills instead of a collective team effort and the goals.

There are some, though, who think the Young Warriors are still in the game saying coach Lloyd Chigove has to work on the lethargies that manifested themselves at Rufaro ahead of the match in Brazzaville.

The Young Warriors have lived dangerously before playing a two-all draw against Mozambique in Harare before going on to win 2-0 in Maputo.
