The announcement was made recently by the ATA in New York. The election comes weeks after the ATA Young Professionals Africa Round Table that was held in New York.
“I feel greatly honored. I know it demands a lot of hard work because the focus now is on young people across the continent of Africa and helping them to grow tourism in their countries. This also entails advancing tourism promotion at such grand levels. I am excited to be given the opportunity to work with other Young Professionals from Africa and from USA, and I promise that during my tenure we will bridge the gap between Africa and the USA by creating platforms to promote travel to Africa.
This is beyond personal achievement but it’s a feat for the country. I feel proud to be Zimbabwean and to hold this office, as John F. Kennedy rightly put it, ‘Ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country, ” said Mudzengerere acknowledging her new responsibility.
Congratulating Mudzengerere ZTA Chief Executive Karikoga kaseke ,“Rumbidzai as a representative of the Zimbabwean girl child has exhibited untapped talent in leadership in youth entrepreneurship programmes, innovation and the will power to contribute to global development. Her achievements to date speak volumes of her potentials and we are ready to work with her from a tourism perspective so that she can fully realize her dreams which I am convinced are also good for the country.”
Mudzengerere is the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority’s Marketing Executive. The ATA’s Young Professionals Program (YPP) aims to engage tourism and hospitality students and young industry professionals in Africa’s tourism industry and thier future
To achieve the mission, YPP offers two programs that serve young people at different points in their education and professional development, that is, ATA Student Union and ATA Young Professionals Network.
The term of office for the newly appointed ATA Young Professionals board members is two years. Zimbabwe has three representatives in the executive board. Ms Mudzengerere will be deputised by another Zimbabwean, Rejoice Chisamba.
Stewart Mtizwa a fellow country man is the treasurer. Other Executive board members are Assan Njie from the Gambia Eyong Ayuk from Cameroon .
Kim Marie Clair Umutesi and, Damas Mutogoma from Rwanda, Ibrahim Mbacke (Senegal), Dominic Tolbert from (USA), Roni Weiss (USA)and Carmen Fells (USA) are non executive members of the board.
