CCDZ works for peace

The Centre for Community Development Zimbabwe recently brought together polarised Zanu (PF) and MDC supporters, at a landmark peace workshop held at Dombotombo Hall last Thursday.

The meeting was the first of its kind to be attended by Zanu (PF). CCDZ workshop facilitators called on the electorate to be politically mature and respectful of each other’s political choices.

“We hope you have experienced that political violence does not benefit anyone. It is an uncivilised way of doing politics and any other form of business. At the end of the day, violence results in unnecessary loss of life and instability to the country. Political insecurity will bring about economic under-development,” said CCDZ Director, Philip Pasirayi, to the estimated 200 delegates.

He urged the gathering to exercise its social obligation as community media. “You should blow the whistle whenever violence rears its ugly head. It is your right to alert each other through mobile phones and other channels of communication about violence perpetrated anywhere. Perpetrators of violence must be exposed and shamed.”

The workshop called on women to be well positioned and play a crucial role in politics.

“We expect equal and active representation of women in politics as prescribed in the draft constitution.” CCDZ urged the electorate to vote into office able and selfless leaders.
