Students have called for replacement of Nyagura by the likes of Professor Arthur Mutambara, who of late initiated a fundraising move to take the university back to its heyday ranks. The name of former political science lecturer, Professor Jonathan Moyo is also being touted as possible replacements for Nyagura although he is likely to be unpopular with students.
Research Fellows at UZ Miss Kwanele Jirira and Lewis Masuku through their lawyers Kadzere, Hungwe and Mandevere Legal Practitioners won a judgment over a labor dispute of over US$291 000. Property attached allegedly include books at the Reserve Section of the Main Library, about half a dozen buses that ferry staff members, office equipment in Nyagura’s office, classy cars driven by Nyagura, Deputy Registrar Chevo among others and other equipment.
It could not be established if the attached property will be able to satisfy the judgment together with interests and deputy Sherriff’s charges, totaling over US$300 000. UZ has a plethora of properties across the country including a farm in Mazowe, blocks of flats in low density suburbs and city centre, research stations and so on which stakeholders say are not being run professionally.
The Students Solidarity Trust (SST), a registered non-profit civil society organization notes inconveniences to the commuting lecturers and non-academic staff that the failure in handling the labor dispute properly has caused. SST also notes the possible negative consequences to students over attachment of books in the Reserve Section of the main library. The organization therefore bids stakeholders of the UZ to put their heads together in solving the dispute with minimum further repercussions to lecturers and students.
