Officials at the United States Africa Children’s Fellowship, told The Zimbabwean there would be delays in transporting the books to Zimbabwe as incessant rains had spoiled some of the material.
“The container we loaded this past weekend is not going to Zimbabwe because it is not full. In fact, Hurricane Sandy affected it because we had loaded it some time ago. Once it is full, we will send it to Zimbabwe,” Dominic Muntanga said.
The container was stationed in Brooklyn, New York when the hurricane struck.
The US Africa Children’s Fellowship, a non-profit organisation dedicated to improving the lives of children in Africa, aims to load about 1 500 boxes of books and other educational supplies to send to more than 75 schools in rural Zimbabwe.
More than 34 schools around the country have previously benefited from this initiative.
