Jumbo tramples refugee to death

Stray elephants believed to be coming from Humani Range are wreaking havoc and have claimed the life of a refugee based at Tongogara camp in Chipinge.

According to police, a Congolese national identified as Moses Pasi (25) was trampled to death by a marauding elephant. Provincial police spokesperson, Enoch Chishiri confirmed the incident and advised the community to avoid places that are visited by wild animals.

Police said early on the morning of 23 October Pasi went to fetch firewood but did not return. His body was later discovered by another refugee Maria Maan (24). Police attended the scene and discovered that Pasi has bruises all over his body and fractures on the right arm. They saw fresh elephant dung.

Last week, a woman from Chiredzi was trampled to death by a jumbo while she was fetching firewood. Her mangled and bruised body was discovered by a neighbour.
