Mokoomba joins other nominees such as Duncan Chisholm, Caroline Herring, Lo’Jo, Narasirato, MalickPathé, Sow & BaoSissoko, Punch Brothers, The Other Europeans, Staff Benda Bilili and various artists drawn from the international arena.
The list was released in the Songlines Magazine, which covers music from traditional and popular to contemporary and fusion by artists dotted around the globe from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe.
The great achievement comes shortly after the same album topped the ITunes World Music Charts for the UK for the first time, a recent appearance on BBC TWO show with Jools Holland and a successful showcase performance at the World Music Expo.
The band’s manager, Marcus Gora, was thrilled with the “flying start” the young ensemble has been making on the international music scene. “This is a great achievement for Mokoomba, an endorsement that their music is fresh and has the ability to transcend borders and culture. They have the potential to learn and grow into the most exciting band from Africa,” said Gora.
