I then informed the police and the Chiredzi police officer in-charge of crime took the bullets,” said Hon. Dumbu. He was told that the bullets were of the AK rifle and had ZDI inscribed on them.
ZDI stands for the Zimbabwe Defence Industries. The police have said they have since launched a provincial investigation to locate where the bullets came. They said if the bullets where not from the police then they would be from the nearby army-base, Buffalo Range.Hon. Dumbu said the bullets were left at his workplace after he had reassured the villagers that they should not be intimidated by a self-styled war veteran only identified as Mada.
Mada was moving around the villages brandishing an AK rifle.Mada was moving around Zaka district threatening villagers that there will be war in Zimbabwe if they voted for the MDC. However, after the threats by Mada, Hon. Dumbu went around the district and reassured the villagers to ignore Mada’s threats.Hon.
Dumbu said this was not the first time that he had received live bullets. In May 2000, when he was a teacher at Mufakose High in Chiredzi, a live bullet was left in the custody of his wife by unknown people. No arrests were made. The MP said he would not be scared or intimidated by anyone as the MDC gears prepares for the elections to be held in 2013.“These acts will not deter me in working for the people of Zaka. The threats are from my political rivals in Zanu PF,” Hon. Dumbu said.
