Ncube urges youths to bring political change

MDC-N leader, Welshman Ncube, has urged youths to play a more active role in politics so as to usher in meaningful change in Zimbabwe. He was addressing party supporters in Emakhandeni in Bulawayo at the weekend.

Ncube challenged the country’s youths to mobilise and unseat Zanu (PF) and its leader, President Robert Mugabe—who he said would enter the Guinness Book of Records as the oldest African President—through the ballot in the next elections likely next year.

“We strongly believe that the youths have the responsibility of retiring President Robert Mugabe. If the country votes for Mugabe, it will be giving the old man yet another chance of robbing the youths’

future. So, it is the last chance for the country to reclaim the future it has been robbed of by Zanu (PF) (PF),”Ncube said.

Youths make up about 72 percent of the country’s population, and this population group has the largest number of people eligible voters.

Civic society organisations are currently carrying voter awareness campaigns to urge youths to register as voters.

However, the Registrar General’s office is reportedly frustrating youths’ registration by demanding proof of residence from them and turning away a significant number.

The trend is seen as a move to strengthen Zanu (PF)’s chances of winning the next elections, considering that youths tend to align with that party’s opposition.
