In an interview, Moyo said comparing Zanu (PF) to stones highlights the nature of the party that “always does the exact opposite to what the President says”.
“For example, the President has preached against violence – but Zanu (PF) thugs continue to carry our violence around the country. This plays seeks to show that the message does not reach the Zanu (PF) membership – it seems that, like stones, they are unable to listen,” Moyo said.
His satire about Gukurahundi, entitled “1983, The Years Before and After” was banned by police last year. The drama portrayed how the 5th Brigade soldiers maimed, raped and butchered thousands of innocent people in Matabeleland and Midlands provinces, accusing them of being Zapu dissidents.
Police recently banned “No Voice No Choice”, a play by actor Tafadzwa Muzondo after alleging that it was against the spirit of national healing. Controversial playwright Cont Mhlanga’s The Good President, Raisedon Baya and Chris Mlalazi’s satirical play, The Crocodile of Zambezi were also banned by police in recent years.
