No Zone VI soccer for Zim

Zifa President, Cuthbert Dube’s claims of developing the future national soccer team from the junior ranks continued on an empty trail this week, as Zimbabwe withdrew from the regional talent development initiative – the Zone Six Under-20 games.

Men’s soccer games kickoff with at the Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka, Zambia, on December 7, but the regional Confederation of Southern African Football Associations confirmed this week that Zimbabwe had withdrawn.

“The men’s competition will see the teams split into two groups of five teams each, after Mozambique and Zimbabwe withdrew their men’s teams,” said Cosafa Media Officer, Lynda Greef.

Zimbabwe also failed to send its Under-20 and Under-17 teams to fulfill African Youth Championships assignments, exposing Zifa’s ineptitude in the development and running of the game.
