The Pretoria giants take on unpredictable Bloemfontein Celtic at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium, their second meet in less than a week, following the Downs’ 1-0 win in a league encounter last Sunday.
Nyandoro and his team mates are eager to end a long-running trophy drought, which has been compounded by their worst start to any Premiership campaign this season, as they lie second-from-bottom in the 16-team league. Nyandoro, one of only three survivors of the Downs team that last won a cup four years ago, said they “must” win the Telkom Knockout and appease fans who have endured anguish for seasons of near misses.
“It has been a long time since the team won any trophy. We will do our best to claim this one to bring back the excitement. It has been a tough period for them not seeing us win anything,” said the anchorman, one of three Zimbabweans at the side.
“We beat Celtic in the league, but that will not have a bearing on the outcome of Saturday’s match. The mood in our camp is positive with everyone prepared for the encounter.”
