Chairperson of the probe team, Ellen Chivaviro, who is also the Finance and Administration Director at TelOne, said her team was now finalizing the report which she said will be out “any time soon”.

“We have completed our investigations as mandated by the Minister of Local Government Ignatius Chombo. Right now, we are in the process of finalizing our report and the results of our probe will be out soon,” said Chivaviro.

The probe team, comprised of seven members, was appointed by Chombo in September to investigate the awarding of tenders at Harare City Council from June to August 2012 and determine whether they were procedurally appropriate in terms of the Urban Councils Act (Chapter 29:15).

Initially, the probe team was supposed to have started its work on 3 October and complete investigations within seven working days. However, the team had to extend their tenure of office after they failed to complete their work within the stipulated timeframe.

Chivaviro expressed satisfaction with the work her team had done and expressed hope the results of the probe would help bring sanity to the City Of Harare.

Chombo has set up probe teams across the country to investigate corruption at various councils and the move has seen several MDC-T councilors being axed.

The probe teams that have descended on Chiredzi, Harare, Zvishavane, Mutare, and Bindura among other towns in the country have reportedly gobbled a whopping $1 million in allowances.
