The Zimbabwean visited a project in Unit J, Seke where a three men have started planting a variety of seedlings.
The leader of the project, James Masandutse, said they had failed to get formal employment for a long time. “Since we started, we have been able to get a few dollars to sustain our families and we can actually say that we are now self-employed,” said Masandutse.
The men have dug wells to water their plants and a variety of vegetable seedlings are on sale at the site, including spinach, covo, rape, lettuce, beetroot, tomatoes, carrots and onions.
A bunch of seedlings costs $1 while a bunch of onions with an average of 500 plants is pegged at US$2.
Moses Chapandira said the project had provided a lifeline for the men and their families to survive.
