The tournament is an annual post-season soccer event that brings together various Irish provinces and the former Under-23 midfielder, who turns out for Galway United, has been selected as part of the entourage from his club’s province.
“The selection is done by coaches from various professional football clubs in the province, so making the cut for me is a great inspiration and an indication that I am being appreciated here,” said the 24-year-old former Highlanders player.
“Only players who excelled in the just-ended season make the cut. I hope this will prepare me for the national team back home, which I am working hard to be a part of one day. My game is improving and I am grateful that the Galway Provincial coach recognised my continued quest for success.”
Sibanda migrated to Ireland with his family at 18 years of age and joined East Meath United U-18, where he played as a striker and became their top goal scorer in 2007. He was then snatched by Shamrock Rovers U-20’s, where he had another impressive season. This prompted the Football Association of Ireland to adopt him for a 10-month extreme monitoring program on soccer development.
He joined Drogheda United in 2009, moved to Shelbourne the following season, before making his dream move to Galway in 2011. He is now a regular in the high profile team’s starting line-up.
