Supersport chase Monos star

South Africa’s ABSA Premiership side, Supersport United, are after the services of exciting Monomotapa midfielder, Ronald ‘Rooney’ Chitiyo.

The 20-year-old was in scintillating form for his side in the second half of the season, captivating many with his skill, passing and shooting abilities.

Dynamos and CAPS United are also understood to be keen on the rising star, but Monos sources recently revealed that the pint-sized footballer could soon be heading out of the country.

“A number of South African clubs have been monitoring his progress, but Supersport has shown the most interest so far,” said the source.

“Their scouts have even been attending some of our training sessions to have a closer look at the lad. He had a terrific season and although we would have wanted to keep him for next season, there is little we can do when greener pastures beckon.”

Chitiyo is an attacking linkman whose energy and strength belies his small frame. He was first noticed at last year’s Cosafa

Under-20 championships, emerging as one of the few leading lights in an otherwise lacklustre Zimbabwean side.

Chitiyo is one of several young players to have shown great potential this season, alongside Dynamos defender Patson Jaure, Quelaton midfielder Mhleli Sibanda, Hardbody goalkeeper Ashley Rayners,

Buffaloes forward Roy Mwenga and Chicken’s bow-legged winger Kuda Mahachi.
