He has called on political parties to maintain peace ahead of the forthcoming harmonised elections scheduled for March next year.
His new attitude seems to reflect Zanu (PF)’s swansong of non-violence in the run-up to the next general elections. At the recently held Zanu (PF) 13th annual conference, the party’s youth committee also resolved to maintain peace, breaking away from their tradition of militancy.
However, it remains to be seen whether the party will honour its pledge, considering that violence and abductions have been reported in several parts of the country.
When Zanu (PF) selected Chinotimba to be their parliamentary candidate for the Buhera South seat in the March 2008 harmonised election, he unveiled numerous terror tactics.
Chinotimba donated 4 000 chicks to teachers at Mutiusinazita Secondary School to ‘beef up their paltry salaries’.
He said the donation was like an incentive to the civil servants.
Chinotimba has also been rehabilitating schools and clinics in Buhera like Chipondamudzi Clinic, Chabata primary, Mushongwi and Devuli primary schools in a bid to address a plethora of challenges bedeviling villagers in Buhera South.
The source of the funds, however, remains a mystery.
Naison Nemadziwa, MDC-T MP for Buhera South, described in detail Chinotimba’s reign of terror in his constituency, targeted mainly at MDC-T supporters. Nemadziwa said Chinotimba must face the full wrath of the law because of the violence he perpetrated in 2008.
“Chinotimba came to Buhera in 2008, after losing elections in the urban constituencies,” Nemadziwa said. “We suffered a lot at his hands but he was not arrested and he is still roaming around. Many MDC-T supporters were killed and some were raped. People were living in mountains because of his actions.”
