Elephants electrocuted by fallen ZESA lines

Two elephants were electrocuted by Zesa electricity lines sagging too low near the ground this week.

A Zesa pole holding electric cables had broken causing the wires to sag very close to the ground. (right on the crest of a small hill.)

The first ele walked straight into it and died under the sagging line. This could have happened about a week ago as it is infested with maggots.

Over this weekend another Ele walked into the wire in the same spot but stumbled backwards a few meters and died. This one was fresh enough for people to collect the meat.

Our Snare sweep Team have reported several poles in Kabuli area that are suspect / in a bad state of repair and about to fall down and cause the same dangerous problem as above.

This is a tourist spot AND an access point for bank fishermen. It is probable that the next pole up might just break when this one goes. Should a pole break, there could be another FATAL accident.

We hope, that after these two sad incidents, Zesa Kariba are able to replace the many poles around the area that are in such a bad state of repair.
