The inaugural edition of the Willard Katsande Under-18 tournament is slated to run between December 22 and 23 this year and is sponsored to the tune of $2200. It is expected to draw teams from Sakubva, Dangamvura, Penhalonga, Hob-house and Chikanga.
“The tournament is part of giving back to the community that provided me with a platform to showcase my talent. It is also my wish to see this tournament help nurture young talent,” said the defensive link.
“I think we have abundant talent that only lacks exposure, so this initiative is aimed at giving the youngsters both the exposure and competition. This is all about the future of football in Mutare.”
Winners of the tournament will walk away with $1,500, while the runners-up will get half that amount. Participants will also get medals and Katsande said he was in the process of securing soccer kits for the finalists. Each of the competing teams will get balls and jerseys.
