Mpilo needs $3 million

The government’s second largest referral health centre, Mpilo
Hospital, requires over $3 million to refurbish collapsing
infrastructure and sustain operations.

Mpilo Hospital Chief Executive Officer, Lawrence Mantiziba, said the
capital injection was needed to restore the hospital to world standards. Mantiziba said hospital management has since launched a resource
mobilisation project to raise funds for the hospital.

“Through this project, we hope to mobilise the business community, the
corporate world, residents and churches to support our endeavour to
refurbish as well as re-equip the hospital.
We need the capital injection for the development of various hospital
projects like the purchase of ambulances, equipment, autoclaves and the refurbishment of the mortuary and theatres,”
Mantiziba said in an interview.

Donations from well wishers have been sustaining the hospital owing to
government failure to release funding.
Earlier this year, the institution was forced to close its theatre
department after running out of equipment and drugs.
