New diploma to benefit children

A recent commitment made by the Women’s University of Africa and UNICEF to partner in the development of educational programmes will see the launch of a new postgraduate diploma in child sensitive policies.

Speaking during the launch, WUA Vice Chancellor, Hope Sadza, said the new course was aimed at improving the welfare of children.

“This partnership will ensure a flow of national experts who are equipped with the necessary tools and techniques to analyse public policy and development issues. This knowledge will be applied in the design and implementation of evidence–based policies that will help build effective partnerships to promote children’s rights and well-being,” she said.

Sadza said the partnership was strategic, adding that that the core values of both institutions emphasised the empowerment of women and the promotion of children’s rights.

“UNICEF is increasingly working with the government and development partners to support the development of laws and budgets that promote the well-being of women and children,” said UNICEF country representative, Gianni Murzi.

The introduction of this new programme comes hard on the heels of WUA and the Zimbabwean Parliament signing an MOU to provide MPs and staff with various educational programmes.
