This year’s exhibition was officially opened by the newly-appointed Alliance Francaise de Bulawayo Director, Marie-Helene Predhom. The two- month long exhibition runs under the theme “Avante Garde”, which VAAB Chairman, Clifford Zulu, explained was a call to be innovative.
A total of 22 visual artists resident at the Bulawayo gallery are showcasing their pieces at the exhibition. Of the 22 artists, only four are female. Last year, about 30 artists took part and six were women.
For the first time, VAAB included four student exhibitors drawn from the International Labour Organisation’s Master Crafters’ three-month training project.
During the opening ceremony, two artists were presented with awards. Upcoming sculptor, Windmark Nkomo, was crowned young artist. He walked away with a shield and will get a studio at the gallery next year as well as basic art material to enable him to work as a full time artist.
Some of the artists whose work is being exhibited include Charles Bhebhe, Rasheed Jogee, Brian Kumira, Nonhlalnhla Mathe, Danisile Ncube, Voti Thebe and the exhibition Curator, Tafadzwa Gwetai.

Dans le flux la mélodie….
Gentiment,
comme le son
de la neige
qui donne le
matin, comme
la voix du soleil
qui chante
avec toi dans
l’aube d’une
pensée….
