Party spokesman, Rugare Gumbo, confirmed that the party was investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“Party supporters were barred from entering the venue by provincial leaders and we are going to bring those responsible for the violence to book,” said Gumbo.

Sources within Zanu (PF) said the party’s Provincial Secretary for Transport and Welfare, Edmund Mhere, had been summoned to a hearing.

Sources said Mhere ordered the police to unleash dogs on the party supporters.

“Several people, including party big wigs, have been summoned to appear before a disciplinary hearing over the incident,” said the source.
