Best of the best – Misheck Chidzambga

Although often overshadowed by his brother, Sunday, Misheck Chidzambga is still one of Zimbabwe’s football heroes. Having starred for Dynamos, he is the first coach to have won the country an international trophy – the Cosafa Castle Cup of 2000. Here are his best of the best.

My Best team

Definitely Dynamos for the winning culture we always had in that team. They are one of the best teams in Africa and they gave me a platform to showcase my skills. Their management is always excellent and they remain a menace to other local teams.

My Best Stadium

Egypt’s Nasser Stadium is well built and has a good turf. I enjoyed playing there because it made my job easier.

My Best Defence partner

I played alongside many great defenders at Dynamos but Ernest Mutano really made me feel comfortable on the pitch. He knew exactly the type of defender I was. We created a solid defence that gave many strikers sleepless nights.

My Best sharpshooter

There are so many that I can mention but Shackman Tauro could have played in any league. In those days, it was difficult for locals to play abroad. He had talent, speed and great finishing.

My Best-ever

Zimbabwean player

George Shaya is arguably the best striker Zimbabwe has ever had. He banged in goals like no body’s business. He was skillful, clever and unstoppable when he approached the goals.

My Best coach

There are two – Allan Dave and Mick Pool. Those two taught me a lot about football. They were excellent motivators and tacticians, who always wanted a player to succeed.

My Best game

It was a 1981 African Champions league game against Nigeria’s Shooting Stars, which we won 3-0.

My Best Dynamos 11

Japhet Mparutsa, Misheck Chidzambga, Garnet Muchongwe, Oliver Kateya, David Mandigora, Moses Chunga, Edward Katsere, Tembo Chunga, Gift M’pariwa, Ernest Mutano and Edward Kateya. – Aaron Dube
