The farm‘s managing director, John English, said the farm was now exporting crocodile meat to Namibia and Belgium.

“We have secured a deal where we are going to export 4,5 tonnes and 1,5 tonnes of meat to Belgium and Namibia respectively. These two markets are looking positive in terms of promoting viability of our company,” said English.

He also revealed that the farm had embarked on the refurbishment of its infrastructures such as abattoirs and cold rooms.

In the past, the company exported crocodile meat to Singapore and other European markets. However, exports were suspended due to the economic crisis before the formation of the inclusive government.

In 2007, the farm embarked on a $1,5 million long term expansion programme aimed at increasing crocodile meat and skin exports as well as increasing the reptile’s population at the farm to 60,000. At the moment, the crocodile population at the farm is just above 32,000.

Crocodile products are in high demand in Asian and European countries. It is estimated that the country earns more than $100 million annually through the export of meat and skins to countries such as Japan, Singapore, the United States and Australia.
