Prosecutor Justos Mkwena told the court that on December 20, Boniface Togara met the accused, Mandlenkosi Ndlovu, and his accomplice, Stephen Moyo, in the city centre.
He informed the two that he was desperately looking for a part-time job to raise money for Christmas day. Ndlovu allegedly told him he was lucky because he was looking for someone to help him offload a truck at a city supermarket.
At that point, Moyo also appeared and pretended to be looking for a job. The three then proceeded to Spar Supermarket in Main Street where they stopped beside a haulage truck full of goods. Upon arrival, Ndlovu asked the complainant and Moyo, who is on the run, to declare all the money they had before embarking on the job.
The complainant’s money, which totalled $ 215, was then put into an envelop signed by Ndlovu while the same was done for Moyo. The court heard that Ndlovu then told the two that he was going to inform his superiors inside the supermakert that he had found part-time employees so that their ‘wages’ could be processed.
Togara, however, became suspicious when Nldovu did not return. Moyo followed him inside and he and Ndlovu tried to escape. However, members of the public caught the pair when Togara raised the alarm.
